Make the Right Impression
First Impressions – they play such a major part in your day to day business. In many cases, so does your online presence. If you are not making the right first impression on your online audience, there is a good chance they will not even make it past your home page. Studies throughout the internet back this up. So here are a few pointers that will help make your home page inspiring and informative.
Brag a Little
Tell your audience why you’re the best. Toot your horn a bit. But be informative in doing so. Make sure the user knows exactly who you are and how you can help them.
Drive Your Audience
Your home page is your central hub. Make it easy for your audience to get where they need to go. A good solid navigation structure will help but include call outs or sections on the home page that gets users to important or frequently used sections of your site. It’s ok to be a little redundant here.
Breathe – It’s Actually Good For You
Spread out and let your home page breathe a bit. After all, you’re not paying for your page by the square foot. Negative (open/blank) space can help organize the flow of your page’s information and lead the user’s eye throughout your content.
Long Scrolling Sites Are Not The Devil
Thanks to mobile technology, scrolling home pages have become the norm. Don’t fear this concept. Embrace it!
It is said that humans have less of an attention span than GOLDFISH! Your target audience does not want to read a novel. They don’t want gobs and gobs of information to sort through. What they DO want are small doses of simplified, easy to read nuggets that can point them in the right direction. Keep it simple, and you will see results.
Hit Your Target
Remember, your website is not for you. It’s for your customers/users. Figure out who your target is and then think of their needs when planning for your home page – not yours!
