“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”
John F. Kennedy
Very wise words that once again, Google has forced us to face. Google stated in an announcement last month that “Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”
That’s right – if your website is not mobile friendly by April 21st, you may see a significant decline in your search rankings and web traffic.
What you need to know:
This algorithm change affects mobile search results. This means that if your website is not mobile friendly, those who are using their mobile device to search will not be shown your website. Desktop searchers will still have the potential to find you through search. If you have a mobile-only site, your mobile site will still have the potential to be shown to users searching on a mobile or hand-held device.
Don’t panic, go mobile!
