With the growing world of technology, we are getting more information via email instead of paper mail. In respect to this trend, we need to make sure we are reaching our audience correctly and not making mistakes. This list of Do’s and Don’ts should help you with your progression of email marketing.
DO: Create a clear and concise email
Less is more! Attention can be lost within seconds of opening up an email. So make sure your message is clear and to the point.
DON’T: Convey important messages within images
With emails, there is no guarantee that your reader will download the message to see your images fully. With that in mind, you should not include important messages within your images. Rely more on text to get your message across.
DO: Send test emails
Once you have created a professional email make sure to test it out! Send an email to yourself, or a colleague, to double check grammar, flow, and even technical issues. This is an easy thing to do and it can ensure that mistakes are not made.
DON’T: Send emails “just because”
Make sure you are sending emails with value. No one likes to waste time on meaningless emails. Like your mother always used to say, “if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.”
DO: Write as if you are talking to one person
It is always easy to tell if the email you received was sent to thousands of people. We like to feel important and sending a more personalized directed email enhances success. If this route is taken, people will remember your email more often than a general email.
DON’T: Forget your “Call to Action”
The whole point in sending an email is to give reason for action. Be clear to what it is you want them to do otherwise nothing will be done. Give the recipient an interest to take your email to the next level.
