Stellar Blue’s mission is to stay on the leading edge of technology. This is no easy task. That’s why we sent our lead web developer, Chase Meidam, to WordCamp Chicago last month.
WordCamps are locally-organized conferences that cover everything related to WordPress (WordPress is Stellar Blue’s preferred Content Management System that we build custom websites with). Although WordCamps are locally organized, they’re supported world-wide. As of now, WordCamp is in 176 cities, 48 countries, and 6 continents. The speakers are leaders of their industry that fly coast to coast to visit these camps and share their valuable information.
Although WordCamp focuses on WordPress, presentation topics aren’t focused into one track. Topics range from coding innovations/techniques, latest design trends, to optimizing your site for mobile view.
Here were some of the highlights
1. Latest design trends: Design trends are working their way towards minimalism. Instead of having huge gaudy buttons, they’re sleek and slim. This also translates itself into text and content. Content is becoming simpler. As our cultures attention span is decreasing, the more succinct it is, the more likely people are to read it.
2. Innovations in Coding: Some new features in coding include integrating JSON with WordPress. What this means in the future is the potential to allow WordPress admins to edit content on the front end of the site (instead of going to a dashboard).
3. New Mobile Techniques: A new feature out that can be added to WordPress is mobile detect. This is a feature that Stellar Blue has used in the past to make sites optimized for mobile. However, this feature can now be added to the WordPress editor. As an admin you’ll have control to select content to only display on a mobile device.
