Facebook still remains one of marketers’ top social networking sites, but with the recent decline in organic reach, more and more marketers are starting to explore the benefits of Facebook Advertising. Before you jump in and start spending cash on advertising, take some time to understand and learn the basics.
Types of Facebook Ads
There are a variety of different kinds of ads you can set up based on your marketing objectives. Are you promoting an offer? Are you trying to drive traffic to your website or blog? Are you trying to increase installs on your new app? Whatever your objectives are will determine what kind of ad you’ll want to start.
A few of the more common ads
–Page Post Engagement
These ads are designed to drive post engagement such as likes, comments and shares. Posts can be published to a page and then boosted with a budget and targeted audience.
Page like ads are designed to drive more Likes to your company or brand page to grow an audience. Ads are set up with a variation of copy and images and run on a determined time-frame and daily budget.
Offer Claim ads are designed to promote and offer that’s running on Facebook. These ads also allow for budgeting and audience targeting.
Starting your first ad
Let’s start with a Page Post Engagement ad and walk through the steps of how to set one up.
1 . Go to Facebook Advertising page and click on Page Post Engagement
2 . Make sure the post you wish to boost has been published to your Facebook page. In the drop down menu, you will see your post, click on it.
*IMPORTANT – Check your copy and imagery for Facebook advertising guidelines
3 . Edit the placement options to best fit how you’d like your ad to be seen. You can remove certain ad placements if you wish.
4 . Determine your target audience. You can target based on location, age, gender, language, interest, behaviors, Facebook categories and connections. It’s best to keep your targeting not too specific and not too broad.
5 . Determine your overall budget and decide how long you’d like to run this ad. Facebook gives you an estimated reach based on your targeting and your budget.
By following these 5 simple steps, you should be well on your way to running your very first Facebook ad. Although, this is just one of many options available for Facebook Advertising. In addition to the many ad variations, Facebook offers highly detailed audience insights which allows for even more targeting and audience segmentation. Furthermore, monitoring and analyzing the effectiveness and success of your ad is just as important as the ad itself. Facebook offers in-depth advertising analytics including click-thru-rates (CTR) and conversion tracking.
