How to Leverage the Marketing Power of LinkedIn Groups

When you look up the definition of LinkedIn online, you will find that LinkedIn’s main use is for professional networking. What you won’t find is that LinkedIn, when used correctly is a powerful marketing tool for your brand.

It seems as every business has a Facebook page to increase their online presence, but what LinkedIn has that Facebook doesn’t is the power of groups.  Groups allow brands to seek out their target audience, not having to wait for their target audience to find them.  This creates large potential as consumers who may have not ever thought about your business, are given the opportunity.

Here are the steps to use LinkedIn Groups to market your brand:

Step 1: If you do not have a company page, you will need to create one. To do so go to LinkedIn’s Help Center. If you already have a company page, move on to step 2.

Step 2: Make a list of possible Groups your target audience may belong too. For example, if you are a digital marketing agency, your target audience may belong to a Social Media Group.

Step 3: Search for different Groups on LinkedIn, by going to the dropdown menu next to the search function and choosing Groups. Then continue to search.

Choose the Group that is best fit for your business and join by clicking the blue Join button next to the group. Note that some groups will say pending approval, so you will be reviewed before joining the Group.

Step 5: Repeat steps 3 through 4 for each Group, you have determined to be related to your target audience.

Step 6: Once you have been accepted into the group as a member, you can generate discussion. Use this opportunity to post all types of news about your brand, such as events you may be hosting, promotions that you may be having, new hires, or if you are hiring, anything that your target audience would find interesting.
