Have you heard of this sensation? Do you know what Pinterest is? It’s a new social forum where you can pin your interests to an online pin board so your friends and you can share tips, designs, recipes, fashion, quotes, etc.
Why should business and organizations care? According to a survey by Compete, visitors to Pinterest increased by 155% in just one month. Furthermore, Hitwise’s December 2011 list of top ten social networks listed Pinterest at #5, which out beat LinkedIn and Google+.
I bet some of you are now thinking, can I use this for our marketing? The answer: yes.
HubSpot says it best, “Pinterest is a social network that allows users to visually share, curate, and discover new interests by posting, also known as ‘pinning,’ images or videos to their own or others’ pinboards (i.e. a collection of ‘pins,’ usually with a common theme). Users can either upload images from their computer or pin things they find on the web using the Pinterest bookmarklet, Pin It button, or just a URL”
So from a company standpoint, provide content and images that would cause people to want to share. Great examples include before and after images, tips and tricks, video, design ideas, and so much more. For example, let’s pretend your business is an interior design firm for businesses. Post images on your website of some dynamic or outstanding design and also pin those same images to Pinterest for people to view and link back to your website.
